Does this problem only occur while printing the 999th page?
Does this problem always occur while printing the 999th page?

Here are some possible reasons:

1) Print spooler buffer overrun error

2) Contention on printer pool queue because it is not load balanced

3) The image or text on the 999th page required printing beyond the printer's print parameters (outside margin or physical paper width)

4) The printer was unable to interpret an image or text on the 999th page

5) Program was not adequately tested for printing pages beyond page 999 and it simply can not do it.  It froze at page 999 due to its confusion.
