The qualifying mark is 12Let us assume that one shot counts 1 point. Also assume that 'x' points is the qualifying mark.A is short by 10 shots, so his score = x - 10B is short by 2 shots, so his score = x - 2=> Their total score = ( x -10 ) + ( x -2 ) = 2x - 12This should be less than their qualifying mark.Therefore, 2x - 12 < x x < 12Also, A has shot, atleast one shot.So, x - 10 > 1 x > 11Therefore the answer is 12. phew........ I hope I am right : )

Hey guys,The answer is 11. I had derived it wrongly as 12.Actually, i had got 2 equations,x - 10 + x -2 < xwhich means x < 12and x -10 >=1 which i had put wrongly as x -10 > 1.so x >=11x cannot be 12, so x = 11sorry for my haste in the derivation

q-qualify marks

A and B short by 10 and 2

so q-10 and q-2;

when one shot added

q-9+q-1 <q but if it is q then qualified

so 2q-10=q

...q=10

so qualifying marks =10
