There are tools available in the market such as Rational Clear Quest to post a bug. If Rational Clear Quest is configured correctly when you post a bug an e-mail is automatically send to the concerned developers.

Posting a bug through EMail is not done anywhere these days in real-time , as it would lead to miscommunication and creates lot of confusion at the long run..Hence a tool bought by the company or a tool built by our own company will be used.
The tools features would be almost same even though their GUI might vary. Some tools will have a format like Excel sheet where we can enter the details of a bug and save it ,where an email is sent to the assigned person (name and ID will be set in the tool) , when ever status of the bug is changed you will recieve an another mail..

Your answer is rich and beautiful.
But I am sorry to say that, I will negotiate with your answer partially, even though I am working in a company where we are reporting bugs through bug db tool, Still some companies prefers to report the bugs in excel sheets and posting them through mails.

Generally there are a number of ways to post the bug....
one of the most easiest way to post the bug is thru email system. that is sent a mail to the developer along with project leader giving the detailed steps through which one can easily reproduce the bug.
But now a days there are several bug tracking systems are there .through which one can post the bug. and that bug tracking system is acessible to all the members associated with that project so that everybody can get in touch with the latest updates easily .

whenever u r logging a bug,the bug description should be simple n easy understandable(even for a layman also). means should have very good explanation about a bug n if possible try to attachsome screen shots of a bug.
n remain topics are already discussed by other people.
1) means we have to give the bug id,
2) bug description
3) type of bug
4) status of a bug
5) severity of bug
6) priority of a bug
7) in which version got the bug
8) reported by,date
9) fixed by,date
10) tester comments(if possible even mention the reviewer comments also)
11) developer comments
12) customer comments(its not that much mandatory)
13)remarks
14) if possible try to attach the screenshot of a bugalso

Hi Folks,
Post bug is so many ways we have to sent.
suppose take manual:- we can send though mail( Excel or work sheet)
Tool used:- if you using any other tools(Bug Zilla, MQC or etc) we can go for through tools option we will send.
I will explain how to:- Ex:- Take Mercury Quality centre:- in this tool select one defect and double click, defect details screen is getting displayed. then
there is icon called Mail defect, in this option there is a 3 choices is available (1.mail defect 2.Mail defect to assigned to 3.Send mail to detected by) in this three option , we can select tester go for 3. if you select developer select 2. if your want to send some other one just follow 1 and enter the user id.
This is the post bug flow.
if you not understand this process , pls let me know.
Thanks

Excel: log all the issues and intimate to develper, but we can maintain a central reposiotry to track like VSS, we are using VSS.
Tool: If company has the tool, then we can log the issues in tool.
Automation: In autumation , this can be done with quality center, in qtp test results page it self we can log the issues.

Using defect tracking tool we can post a bug either it may be excel sheet or tools like Bugzilla, Mantis, Clear Quest any tool. We need to report thru them. If none of them are available then by that time we can report thru email.
