USB Port not working

Hi This is Azhar Afridi. I had to connect my scanner to my PC in a network. But the USB port is not detecting it. While i changed the USB port then the scanner was detected.
So, please can u tell me what may b the problem with my first USB port??????

may be port damage,
usb version not match like 2.0 or what,

let do the following method
goto
manege,
device manager
scroll
Go on tab
universal serial something..................
wil see the connecting USB port showing the scanner,if yes
then
right clink on that usb port
then uninstalled it,by clicking on that tab uninstalled.
then restart the pc.
if, not work,then
right click tab universal like something......... on device manager.
select tab
scan for hardware change.
