What are the best practices you need to follow while you are creating the Universe?

Since you mentioned the term 'Universe' I am under the assumption that you are referring to Business Objects.

The two best practices are "keep your universe simple", and "Align your Universe with your business  goals".  Answers found in Business Objects the complete reference by Cindi Howson and McGraw Hill publishing.
