#### SURAJ

• Jul 3rd, 2016

Radius of gyration or gyradius refers to distribution of the components of an object around an axis. In terms of mass moment of inertia, it is the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation to a point mass (of mass, m) that gives an equivalent inertia to the original object(s) (of mass, m).

#### manjeet

• Jun 22nd, 2016

It is the radius of a ring having same mass & will produce equal moment of inertia as of that actual object.

•

#### HVAC Design

How to design HVAC and ECM?

#### abdullah

• Jun 13th, 2016

You must calculate the load of the area or you can use HAP and then design the duct system.

#### parthiban

• Jun 8th, 2016

Using Revit MEP software

•

#### Production and Manufacturing

What is the difference between Production and Manufacturing

• Jun 9th, 2016

Production is the pre-planning process and manufacturing is the process between raw material and finished product.

#### anish

• Apr 5th, 2016

Production is to make an idea or hypothesis to the physical product and manufacturing is all about converting physical raw material into the desired product

#### Emmanuel Inkoom

• Apr 20th, 2016

Parabola

#### mohammed shameem

• Apr 16th, 2016

Bending moment is proportional to x^2 ,so it represent (y=C*x^2 ) equation of parabola

•

#### Carnot Engine Efficiency

What is maximum efficiency of Carnot Engine?

bhargavmech

• Member Since Jul-2009 | Aug 1st, 2009

The maximum efficiency of the carnot engine only depends on two factors:

1 - The temperature of the hot reservoir (TH)
2 - The temperature of the cold reservoir (TC)

And is given by (TH - TC) / TH « or » 1 - TC / TH So by that we can see the maximum efficiency (100%) would be when the difference of temperatures between the two reservoirs is infinite.

#### sagar jain

• Apr 5th, 2016

In carnot engine, working fluid is ideal gas. The only possiblity that the efficiency of carnot engine to be 100% is when the temperature of reservoir comes to absolute zero.

#### Rakesh Sharma

• May 24th, 2014

There is not any even a single cycle having efficiency higher than the carnot cycle efficiency it means carnot engine having 100% efficiency.

•

#### SI/CI Engine Start Technology

Why we do not use same technology to start both SI/CI engine?

#### H G Luhar

• Apr 4th, 2016

Auto ignition temp of petrol is higher than diesel

#### creative

• Mar 29th, 2016

Because diesel ignite by air pressure in cylinder and also low calorific value so we cannot use spark pluge in the CI Engine

•

#### Motor Bike CC

How to calculate CC of Motor Bike?

#### Engineering on Softwares

• Mar 18th, 2016

CC of motor bike is depends upon the piston displacement inside the engine cylinder. Area between top dead center and bottom dead dead center is the actual CC of motor bike engine.

#### anurag

• Feb 29th, 2016

By calculating volume of cylinder in cubic centimeters

•

#### Thermodynamics

Why condenser is needed in steam power plant?

#### ramani hardik

• Feb 23rd, 2016

Condenser is need to condense the water which is at outlet into turbine. So we can use same water continuously and it does not need large amount of water.

#### Himanshu

• Feb 17th, 2016

In steam power plant pump can compress only one type of phase either liquids or gases. Work done required to pump is directly proportional to volume of fluid has to compressed as we know that specific volume of water is less than specific volume of steam so to reduced pump work we used condenser

•

#### Thrust Collar

The thrust collar provided at steam end of steam turbine rotor why we not provide it at exhaust end.

#### Tarik

• Feb 16th, 2016

There is higher pressure at steam end so it will push the thrust collar in oppsite of exhaust end, rotor axial force is towards exhaust end because of pressure diffrence so thrust collar will balance the axial movement by steam pressure.

#### franksma

• Nov 18th, 2010

It is not compulsary that the thriust collor should be in Steam inlet end,The thrust collor locations can be set on exhuast side also, it is all purely depends on the design of the steam turbine and the driven unit.

•

#### Steel and Cast Iron Heat Treatment

Why steels are heat treatable and why not cast irons? If yes why?

#### hvdwaard

• Feb 16th, 2016

Steel is an Iron/Carbon Alloy for arguments sake. So the carbon is fully absorbed within the Iron. The carbon and iron re-settle in a various atomic micro-structures when heated and cooled down quickly...

#### deepanshu verma

• Nov 4th, 2015

As tensile strength of steel is more than cast iron (brittle) so on heating expansion occur and brittle are weak in tension and strong in compression so early fracture can occur in cast iron so not heat treated.

•

#### Altitudes

Why temperature decreases as we move heigher?

#### bibekananda sahoo

• Feb 9th, 2016

Rays coming from the Sun is only due to radiation and radiation doesn't require any medium. Thus it does not affect the upper atmosphere of the Earth so we feel the sun rays (i.e hotness) whenever it ...

#### rpatwa11

• Dec 7th, 2010

Volume of air is constant around our globe or in other words the earth can be considered as isochoric system. As we move higher and higher the pressure decrease and at constant volume the pressure is directly proportional to temp. as a result temp will also decrease

•

#### What is a four stroke engine

• Jul 14th, 2006

A 4-s engine is that in which for every four revolutions of crank one power stroke is produced.

#### Emi

• Jan 31st, 2016

A four-stroke engine (also known as four cycle) is an internal combustion (IC) engine in which the piston completes four separate strokes while turning a crankshaft. A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston along the cylinder, in either direction.

#### rajat singh shishodia

• Jan 22nd, 2016

4 stoke engine firing order is 1-3-4-2...... 4 stoke engine is when piston moves from TDS to BDS then suction stroke after that when it goes from BDS to TDS then air is compressed and fuel is inject ...

#### Energy Required to Break a Material

What is the energy required to break the material is called as?

#### Bhargav

• Jan 29th, 2016

A material withstands upto its shear stress. Beyond that, impact energy breaks the material.

#### S.Biswas

• Dec 27th, 2015

Energy required to break a material is specified as the modulus of toughness of that material.

•

#### rajat singh shishodia

• Jan 22nd, 2016

In car Designing, it's airo-dynamic shape play important role.other factors are center of gravity, air drag, centrifugal force & many others.

•

#### Ankit Sharma

• Dec 26th, 2015

Stroke=the drift or displacement or a blow of a substance under gentle pressure. In case of IC engine, the piston inside the combustion cylinder displaces no. of times depending upon the gas cycles. ...

#### suresh

• Dec 19th, 2015

The distance the piston moves from TDC (Top Dead centre) to BDC (Bottom Dead Centre) , and its unit is mm or cm since it is a linear distance.

•

#### IC engine

What will happen by pouring diesel in petrol engine instead of petrol ?

#### aNKIT

• Dec 22nd, 2015

1. Diesel needs high ignition temp. to burn. If diesel compatible ignition provided to spark plug in the IC engine of petrol, combustion will definitely take place but only for one cycle and the whole...

#### gokul k

• Jun 26th, 2014

The ignition will not happen as diesel requires a large compression ratio. but the petrol engine will not have a sufficient pressure difference to ignite the diesel
