It is a flow that takes place when the water does not flow in a regular path. In other words each particle of the liquid does not follow the past taken byt its preceding particle.

Turbulent flow is a type of flow which is not uniform.  There are some losses in this flow when renolds number > 4000 then the flow is turbolent. It increases boundary layer thickness.
