Do testers work with the customers? Please explain.

Tester's are just like customers.At the end phase of testing (Acceptance testing) is completed tester's can accept or reject the application/Product  based on the requirements ( Customer's Accept/ reject the application/Product depends upon their requirements).

In UAT phase, Yes tester do work with customers.
As a matter of fact. Testers acts as a representative of customers through the life cycle of a product to ensure quality.

UAT = User Acceptance Testing
