the only time which satisfies the question is 4pm, therefore from midnight to 4pm is 16hrs and from 4pm to midnight it is 8hrs........ and therefore 16/4=8/2 and therefore answer is 4pm(present time)

But how is it possible, it is clearly mentioned in quedtion that time should be added to get the present time. so can anybody solve it.

i hav a solution for your question

its like this.......

Consider the present time as 'x'

so 1/4 (x) + 1/2 (24-x) =x ;

By solving this equation you wil get x as 9:36 am.

I think he just asked the present time...can't we answer by looking at our watch...i think thats the most simple answer...if u have any objection...let me know...

I have calculated...your answer is is correct as per calculation...but I think he just asked the present time...logically thinking can't we answer by looking at our watch...i think thats the most simple answer...but it doesn't matches with the Q restriction...what do you think...let me know...

Let the current time be x
 
  i] one quarter of current time from midnight[00:00hrs] [equals] x/4
 ii] Half of the time remaining from now to midnight [equals] (24-x)/2
iii] Current time equals (i)+(ii)

therefore x equals (x/4)+(24-x)/2

=>X [equals] X+48-2x/4
=>X [equals] 48-x/4
=>4x[equals]48-x
=>5x[equals]48
=>X[equals]9.6  i.e 9hrs 6min
 
CROSS CHECK
1] 1/4 of 9.6 [equals] 2.4 
2] (24-9.6)/2=7.2
Current time = 2.4+7.2 =9.6

Therefore Current Time = 9Hrs 6Min

Let the current time be T
A] one quarter of current time from midnight[00:00hrs] [equals] T/4
B] Half of the time remaining from now to midnight [equals] (24-T)/2
T] Current time equals A + B

Therefore T equals (T/4)+(24-T)/2

:. T  = (T+48-2T)/4
:. 4T  = 48 - T
:. 5T  = 48
:. T  = 48/5 = 9.6 = 9.0 + 0.6

In ARITHMATIC It is 9.6
ie. 9 minutes + 0.6 minutes
ie. 9 minutes + 36 seconds
09:36 am is the right answer

Cross Check
1] 1/4 of 09.36 HRS is 02.24 hrs
2] Remaining Hours till midnight from 09:36 am is 14:24 HRS (24:00-09:36)
Half of 14:24 is 07:12

Current time 02.24+07:12 = 09:36

Therefore Current Time (and Correct Answer) is 9Hrs 36Min

They have given that quarter and half of remaining adds to the present but why do you add that quarter and half of remaining.
