let total no of people be xpeople who donot use powder is given to be d(p)= x/3" " " " " " "liquid is d(l)=2x/5 people who use powder and liquid are say s(p * l)= 427 note: as this is a set theory problem and i cant represent symbols of intersection iam using symbols u for union, * for intersection we have a formula in set theory p(aub)=p(a)+p(b)-p(a*b) since here we are given those who do not use liquid and powder =d(p*l)=x/5)d(pul) = d(p)+d(l)-d(p*l)using this we get d(pul)=8x/15 and after finding this we add those who use powder and liquid to those whodo not use powder and liquid ie d(p*l) and s(p*l)d(p*l)+s(p*l)-d(pul)=427x+x/5-8x/5equate the abov expression to x and find x which is required total no of people surveyed
