Once the bug is filed, it will be communicated to the developer and the bug needs to be reproduced by the tester. And the developer will fix the bug and makes it resolved. The tester should retest the fixed bug so that he can close it if it is not reproduceable.

hi i think u have mistaken....the status 'bug is fixed' will not be posted by the tester and infact by the developer. the tester tests it and then makes the status as 'bug closed' or 'still open' accordingly. but the bug is strictly fixed by the developer and not by the testers.

Who was that fool? guys when u attend interview dont think the interviewers know everythng and what they say is right!!

I have seen in many companies that ppl with just <2yrs exp tak intrw n they blabber whtever they want. U must have questioned back! If u knw u r right dont hesitate , he may want to confuse you!!

If interviewer intentionally wants to say that the answer what you have said is incorrect.I think he wants to check your reasoning skills, your confidence and your behaviour.

Answer that you said was 100% accurate.I think in his company(interviewer) ,he fixes the defect it seems and he might be very intelligent that the management of that company has given him all the works coding, testing and fixing the defects.

You might have asked him while leaving the room after your interview is over that there is no need of "defect tracking" system in your company because ,you are coding ,testing and fixing the defects by yourself :-)).

Hi,

Bug will be fixed by the developers'.

But you look at good companies, they have tech.writers especially for documentation.

If the bug is logged for a documentation change or some cosmetic change in the documentation, it would be assigned to the tech-writer or doc-writer.

Then he/she will  fix those entries.

What do you say group!!!!!

Well.....devloper usually fixes the bug. But Tester is the one who gets it fixed.

So eventually tester fixes it.

Take the credit guys.

As per your question and whatsoever your defined; I am on a dicision that you both are right. In real developer fixes the bug. But only tester can change the state of bug from open to fixed /resolved what so ever it is.So, in future whenever phase a interview , try to learn the interviewers mind what he/ she want to listen. You can't blame them.

Obviously the developer will fix the bug finally. Tester will not fix the bug, he will close the bug after fixing the bug by developer.

  Was this answer useful?  Yes

When ever any defect raised by Tester, that defect will be fixed by the
development and in the coming build tester will verify that defect is fixed or
not, after defect fix is confirmed by the tester, then tester will close the
defect.

Defect should be closed by the person who raised. By consider this point
Interviewer might asked you this question.

Developer fix the bug and he will assign to us to retest.  Finally tester will close the bug if he is satisfied that expected result and actual result are same.

It is quite possible that the interviewer knew the correct answer but responded the way he did in order to learn a few things about you:

1) How well do you know the answer to the question?

2) How firm is your conviction?

3) How do you respond when someone shakes your reality?

4) How compellingly can you state your case?

5) How well do you hold up under pressure?

Your question is bit wrong.

The question should be who closes the bug finally.. the developer or the tester.
Always the develper will fix(Modifies the code-the scripting part), and tester will close it (if the functionality is recovered).
