Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a process where multi-skilled teams collaborate to arrive at a common understanding of the customer needs and determine the appropriate technical requirements of each stage of development.  QFD is called many things but the its most common reference (in the U.S.) is "Listening to the voice of the customer (VOC)".
