  • Steel quantity by thumb rule

    How can we get the steel quantity by thumb rule ? I know that it is 1% for slab and 2-3% for RCC column & beams. If I have 10 Cum RCC work for column & beam then how can we get the steel quantity in kgm or Qntl.?

    My concern is why we are taking density of steel. I think density of concrete is more relevent. Density of concrete is Density of concrete is 2400 kg/m3 and steel is Density of steel is 7850 kg/m3

    Answers are different According to percentage of steel.
    1)If I take 2% of steel,then answer is 1570kg.
    2) If I take 2.5%,then answer is 1962kg.
    3) If I take 3% ,then answer is 2355kg.

    For slabs and beams steel should be 80 Kg./Cu.M. and for columns it should be 120 Kg./Cu.M.

    what is the method of calculation for require Cement qty. in 1 Cum brick work with CSM 1:6.

    We know, for 1 cum brickwork done to need 35% dry cement mortar.
    So, Cement Mortar for 1 cum=1 ×0.35=0.35 cum
    Given, Ratio is 1:6 = 1+6 = 7
    1. Cement= (0.35×1)/7=0.05 cum.
    2. Sand= (0.35×6)/7=0.3 cum
