DBA vs Developer

Hi friends,
I m 2012 pass out in CSE discipline. And recently joined Cybage Software as Production Support Engineer. But my ultimate goal lies in Database System. So joining Cybage was merely to keep relatives shut up and parents happy as well as prepare for my goal. But right now I have gone through various sites stating that jobs in DBA is tough to get, for freshers. And also dont have clear idea to where to start from. I m much passionate about field of database and also I contributed as database design and management for my academic project, seriously. There also one question that whether Oracle DBA is good or Oracle Developer?
Please friends help me, Please suggest where to start from. I wanna do it at any cost, thats why I chosen that job in cybage so that I have good time at home as well as in office.

Hope you are aware that being a DBA means working odd hours , indiscriminate routines , erratic week-offs ,etc (occupational hazards ! )
Even then if you wish to take this career option ,here is the way : Build yourself a test server > Get hold of the Oracle docs > Devour the Oracle docs (might take time) > explore blogs -they help you understand real-life scenarios (which are numerous) > build up your competencies > look for DBA projects within your company > stay away from any certification unless you have at least 1 yr On Project exp
Getting certified without exp is : ALL SHOW NO GO !

All said ,Wud suggest u to look for development opportunities in database circuit . Explore PLSQL .
