16 meters and the rope is straight without any curves

The rope is making a parabola, whose height (a) is 15-7 = 8mts and width (b) we have to find. Now the perimeter of parabola is given to be 16mts. Now just apply the parabola-perimeter formula here and find b. b is the distance between these 2 poles.

Here distance between center of rope and earth is 7.
distance between center of the cable to pole height vertically = 15-7 =8
we can assume a parabola from the origin.(center of the cable) y = x^2
8=x^2
i.e x=2*2^0.5 =2.828 from the center of the rope to one pole
Distance between poles = 2*2.828 = 5.657mts
