Single phase can be converted into three phase by two methods.They are 1>By using of capacitors of appropriate values.2>By using of MG(motor-generator) set.The above two mechanisam are also called as phase converters.

This conversion is done by using mainly two methods. They are:

1. Convert 1-ph ac to dc by using power electronic converter then convert that dc to 3-ph ac using power electronic inverter using PWM or SVM.

2. Supply the 1-ph ac to a 1-ph synchronous motor couple the shaft of that motor to 3-ph synchronous generator. (this will give 3-ph output.)

3. It will be done by using some phase shifters also. Take 3 wires from the 1-ph supply (same) then introduce 120 deg. to second wire and introduce 240deg. to third wire. This will give 3-ph supply output. (This is under research now.)
