Interoperatability:-To check if the software can co exist with other supporting softwares in the system

Compatibility:-To check if the software runs on different types of operating systems according to customer requirements.

Compatibility testing verifies how a system under test behaves within a particular environment.  For example, a tremendous amount of research has been devoted toward understanding whether devices used in heart transplants are compatible with the human body.  In software development, compatibility testing examnes how applications function within different operating systems or browsers.

Interoperability testing verifies how a system under test behaves when interacting with something else.  For example, major studies have been conducted to determine how devices used for heart transplants interact with various microwave technologies.  In software development,  interoperability testing examines how applications function with other applications or services.
