Difference between filter & condition

What is the diff. between filter & condition? Explain with an example?

The major difference between query conditions and document filters is that a condition is applied to the query and limits the data retrieved from the database, whereas the filter is applied to the data in the document to hide information and display only the information that you want to appear

Filter and condition are both the same things, when used in context of report creation, but if you mean condition with respect to report layouts, etc that apply to page design, then they do differ. Conditions are checked by creating conditional variables to change the layout of the page and data displayed. Filter's themselves have conditions incorporated in them.
And regarding the filters, the filter conditions alongwith the main query are passed to Oracle by the Cognos Query engine, and only the relevant data is returned.
