Open Source software can be distributed freely for anyone.You can copy it and use distribute it to anyone . The source code is available to you so that You can enhance it to according to your needs.

ex Linux OS Apache server Firefox browser

Right now JAVA is not Open Source.

Yes. Source code is provided with the binaries.

open source means that any one can upgrade a the given software by adding its own devloped utilities.

by the way java is not open source

Open source means that the source code is available for every body for the taking any modification can be done by the user side.

Ex: PHP
