A soft. Eng just returned from US has eaten too much fat and put a lot of weight. So he wanted to less his weight. Every Sunday he starts walking at 3pm with 4 km/hr on level ground then up to at 3 km/hr. he comes back down hill with 6 km/hr and similar speed as previous on level ground till he reaches his destiny at 9 pm . Find his total distance.

this is a +2 physics but it took a while for me to solve it.

here is the solution.

total time take is 6 hrs.

so lets assume x is the plane distance and y is the uphill then the equation is

x/4 + x/4 + y/3 +y/6 = 6

x/2 + y/2 = 6

x+y = 24.

Hi Friends,

I have understood in this way.. it might be wrong also...

The Person Starts His walk 3PM back to his destiny 9pm.

He walk for 6hrs.

4km/hr in flat 3km/hr and 6km/hr down the hills.

4+3+6(13km) in 3hrs. so he walked for 6hrs..

he walked for 26km in 6 hrs...

might may be correct or wrong.

regards

Sangeetha

Let distance of plane ground be x km and of hill be y km.

since total time= distance /speed.
now 6=x/4 + y/3 + x/4 + y/6
6=x/2 + y/2
x+y=12
(x+y) is the distance of one side...
therefore total distance =2(x+y)=2*12=24 km
