Environment in product development:- Generally the developers will develop the funtionality(Enhancement or modifications) and make the entire application as a build(including modifications) and place it in the shared environment and intimate to the QC team for testing the modifications or enhancements or functionality.

Incase the developers are going to implement a new functionality then they will show the main functionality to the QC team before the build is releasing for the testing.

In Product Developed company their could be 2 types of developments 1) Developing a Project according to Customer requirements and 2) Developing a product and then sell it to customer.

In both cases working procedure steps will be as follows ideally

1) Taking and documenting Customer requirements or defining product requirements. Testing of the requirement documents.

2) Project or product designing testing of the design.

3) Planning the application development and assigning task considering and discussing with SQA of the project.

4) Application development also testing while development in progress with code review branch coverage etc.

5) On the Testing team side after receiving the SRS or Impact analysis document Test planning and Preparation and review of test cases. Test plan should be repaired and approved by Managers and SQA.

6) Delivery of application to the testing team through SourceSafe Control (VSS) includes Setup Unit test cases and delivery Note approved by development manager and SQA.

7) All the data and documents released by development team will be inserted in SourceSafe control of testing team along with Test cases Test plan and Test case execution logs.

8)Testing will be done and Defects or SAR s will be raised and logged in the Defect Tracking System.

9) Defects will be analyzed approved assigned and Fixed / Postponed or Rejected by Development team in all the cycle.

10) The application will be tested for the defects of all cycles and Functionality once in the last cycle and UAT will be done and if the application comes under the Exit criteria Signoff note will be prepared by Testing team.

11) Managers of both development and testing team SQA and QA manager will give approval of the Signoff.

12) After approval by all CD cutting of the application will be done.

As par my Knowledge these steps are followed by Product Development Companies. Can differ by companies.
