soft soil is a soil which has a very low bearing strength like soft clay.Foundation on a soft soil should be raft foundation.

Soft soil is that cannot take heavy load coming from the super structure. Also having low soil bearing capacity, like black cotton soil, clay. For shallow foundation raft, continuous foundation is good. For deep foundation pile foundation is preferable.

The soil whose bearing capacity is low, this type of soil is know as soft soil, followings are the types of foundations which is used for construction on soft soil.


1. Pile foundations

2. Raft foundations

3. Under reemed pile foundation (specialy for black cotton soil)

4. Well foundation (specialy used for river strucrures)
