Primary responsibility of the tester is to write the testcases. writing testcases and executing his own testcases gives best result in testing.

After studying the functional and technical documents i prepare testcases and test the application basing on the testcases written.

koti reddy and meghana's replies are apt for ur doubt. It is the  main eligibility for a test engineer to have the ability to prepare the test cases(ofcourse after thorough understanding of the functionality or application). In most of the cases  tester himself executes the test cases....

I have written my own test cases and executed those written by others.

Testers tend to become set in their routines after a few test cycles.  This causes them to consider the same line of reasoning and follow the same paths during their test runs.  In an attempt to pull them out of this rut, it is a good to have them execute one another's test cases at least once during a testing phase.  Fresh eyes and a fresh mind often considers alternate ways to uncover defects.
