Question is wrong  
it must be 77 % boys &72% girls passed 
and totak pass is 75% 
then we can get the answer as  
boys=231/300 
girls=144/200 
total=375/500 
this seems to be obvious

question is wrong as pass percentage can be only and only between 72 and 75 % and cannot be 77 % and i dont understand how one of the guys got 96 as ans.

The question seems to be wrong but the method to solve the answer can be:-

Total=500 students; Boys be x and Girls be 500-x

75%of x+72% of (500-x)=77% of 500

The no. of girls can be around 167

and the no. of boys can be around 333.
