An ActiveX document is better thought of as a hybrid between a document and an application. An ActiveX document project is made up of a document that contains the data, and a server, or application, that provides the functionality. After compilation, the document is contained in a Visual Basic Document file (.VBD) and the server is contained in either an .EXE or .DLL file.
