I believe you meant "whats the difference between ESX and vSphere?". ESX or ESXi (the newer and lighter version) is the hypervisor that gets installed on bare metal or each virtualization host. vSphere refers to VMwares server virtualization platform which is a suite of components used in VMware virtual datacenters and includes ESX & ESXi, but also includes vCenter, single sign on, update manager and more.
