. A candidate appearing for an examination has to secure 40% marks to pass paper I. But he secured only 40 marks and failed by 20 marks. What is the maximum mark for paper I?

maximum marks for paper 1 is 150

(40/100) *x=60

x=60*(40/100)
   =150

40/100  * x = 60
hence  x = 6000/40

40% of x = (40+20)

=> x= 150

ans is 40%of paper 1=obtained no+faied by no.

40% of y=40+20

let us consider  x is the maximumber number of marks.


secured marks => 40% of x= 40/100 of x=2x/5


To pass an exam he has to score =fail marks+20
=40+20=60
2x/5=60
x=150
maximum marks for paper I is =150
