first take 7lt from container and drop into another container.place both the containers in the balance and remove from 7lt container and drop to adjust the oil till both are balanced. Then containers will have 6 lt each.

RE: You have 12 lit oil in my container. And 5, 7 lit weights. So how can u give 6lit oil to me.
first take 7l from the 12 l bucket now u would have 5l in the 12l bucket. From the 7l bucket drop 5l to the 5l bucket now u would have 2 l left in 7l bucket. Dop the 5l to the 12 l bucket leaving you with a total of 10l in 12l bucket. Dop the 2l in 5l bucket leaving you with no oil in the 7l bucket. Again fill the 7l bucket fully that would leave 3l in the 12l bucket. Fill the 5l bucket that would leave 4l in the 7l bucket as the 5l bucket was previously filled with 2l. Pour all the oil from the 5l bucket to 12l bucket that would make 12l bucket to have 8l of oil. Pour all the 4l oil from the 7l bucket on to the 5l bucket. again fill the 7l bucket from the 12l bucket leaving 1l in the 12l bucket. Now fill the 5l litre bucket since it is already having 4l it will fill only 1l more leaving 6l in the 7l bucket.

this might sound stupid but .. i would rather use the 12 lt. container pour out exactly half of the 12 lt. oil to get 6 lt. in it ....then calibrate it with the 5 and 7 lt. weights.. it wud be lesser than 7lt. and greater than 5 lts.

first empty the 5 and 7 lit weigts and fill them with the oil u have i.e form 12 lit oil and nw the container is left with 1 lit .now pour the 5lit oil from 5lit weight into container.hence the container is left with 6lit oil

RE: You have 12 lit oil in my container. And 5, 7 lit ...
Its very simple answer & very easy. Take oil into 7lt and pour into 5lt now this 5lt is poured into 12lt vessel the balance in the 7lt vessel is 2lt and it is poured into 5lt then take 7lt from vessel and pour into remaining of 5 lt vessel this goes as12 7lt 5lt full empty 2lt full(this is poured back into 12lt vessel) empty 2lt 7lt 2lt 4lt full(poured back into 12lt vessel) empty 4lt 7lt 4lt] 6lt (ans) 5lt
