We can have active and inactive records in data warehouse to maintain history.

Normally to maintain short term historical data llike 3-6 months etc. there is no need to go to DWH. For maintaining long ternm historical data i.e., 3-6 years etc., You need to go to DWH. In DWH we will use SCDs to maintain both current as well as historical data. In DWH we have the arrangement for both historical as well as current data arrangement system, there we will store the data.
