If you do not have a application/build to test what would be your approach/strategy for testing. what is the type of testing you think would be suitable to test a particular build you only have test cases derived from SRS/BRS.

Thanks for your reply anu but this was asked to me in an interview i put this question in another way

Suppose you have received SRS or BRS from client and he want to know what would be your strategy from here on from a Tester's prospective.

would you start preparing Test plans (high Level and low level) or will you wait for project to be EC(engineering Complete) and after receiving the build you start Creating TP and TC's??

If you do not have application ready, As a test lead I can ask to write details test plan, high level (first document) Test Strategy document which contain
STRATEGY
Project Purpose
Testing Purpose
Testing Descritpion
Time Sketch (based on requirement document).
Impact on the Network infrastructure
Risk and security assessment
Recommonded testing (regression, functional, automation, performance)
plan to use tools
TEST PLAN / QUALITY CONTROL PLAN

Introduction of the project
Objectives, TEst environment, components tobe tested,
Test approach, Issue management, test deliverables,
Resources testing, and details Schedule
