Chart of a/c are creation of account for groups. In accounts groups you can post the all G/L accounts.

The group chart of accounts contains the GL accounts that are used by the Corporate group. This allows the company to provide reports for the entire corporate group. However the assignment of group chart of accounts to company code is optional.

in sap fico we have three types of chartof accounts
> group chart of accounts
> country specific chart of accounts
> operative chart of accounts

group chart of accounts

the purpose of GCOA is to consolidate all the company codes balance sheet into one. the main purpose of this one is to external reporting.

group coa isa corporate level gls
basically used at consolidation level these coa will be viewed by the directors of the corporate comapny with diffrent gl numbers
otherthan operative coa and country spcific coa these gl nos should not be over laped
