There are n urns and m balls. If we put 3 balls in each urn 3 balls will be excess. If we put 4 balls in each urn 1 urn will be excess. Find no. of Urns (or) Balls?

There r 7 urns and 24 balls.sol:7 urns 3 in each implies 21 r filled an d 3 r left4 in each implies 6 urns r filled and 1 urn is left.

From the problem we can find derive an equation

3n+3 m and

4n+1 m .

That is total number of balls Number of balls in 'n' urns + excess balls

When we solve this we will get 2 urns and 9 balls.

eqs1: total ball 3n+3

eqs2: total ball 4(n-1)

so 3n+3 4n -4

0r n 7

so 7 urns 24 balls

The number of balls should be divisable by both 3 and 4. The numbers which are divisable by 3 and 4.



12 -> here the no of urns shoud be 3 at first case but it is not suitable for the next case.



24 -> here the no of urns should be 7 at the first case and it also satisfies the second case 24/4 6 so 1 urn will be remaining. . . .



Hence Answer is There are 24 Balls and 7 Urns.

hi vidhya the method u did is correct but the equation 4n+1 is not equal to no of balls the equation is 4(n-1) plz check it out

m-3 3*n...........(1) (n-1)*4 m.........(2) so no of urns 7and no of balls 24
