RE: what are the advantages data mining over tradition...

Data Mining is used for the estimation of future. For example if we take a company/business organization by using the concept of Data Mining we can predict the future of business interms of Revenue (or) Employees (or) Cutomers (or) Orders etc.

Traditional approches use simple algorithms for estimating the future. But it does not give accurate results when compared to Data Mining.

Datamining is a process of looking information in different prospective that means if you have data of sales of different products in different months we can find hiding data from same tables in the way what are the total sales per each month.

This means data mining is extracting meaning of the data in different aspects.

RE: what are the advantages data mining over traditional approaches?
Generally data mining (sometimes called data or knowledge discovery) is the process of analyzing data from different perspectives and summarizing it into useful information - information that can be used to increase revenue cuts costs or both. Data mining software is one of a number of analytical tools for analyzing data. It allows users to analyze data from many different dimensions or angles categorize it and summarize the relationships identified. Technically data mining is the process of finding correlations or patterns among dozens of fields in large relational databases.

Data mining consists of five major elements:

  • Extract transform and load transaction data onto the data warehouse system.
  • Store and manage the data in a multidimensional database system.
  • Provide data access to business analysts and information technology professionals.
  • Analyze the data by application software.
  • Present the data in a useful format such as a graph or table.
