I am not clear with your question.. Please make it clear..

Dimension mapping means ( May be dimension mapping means populating dimension table )

Fact Mapping means( Populating fact table using Dimensions as lookups)

Please make it clear......

I hope if u want to ask fact table poplation or dimention table population via mapping means i can assist you... ok

hi thank u very much for the response.this was an interview question asked by GE company.he asked me what is dimension mapping & fact mapping in informatica? which i was unable to answer!is there any thing of this kind.please suggest.regards

Dimension Mapping:- DM is used to fill the dimension targets.
Fact Mapping:- FM is used to fill the fact tables

Dimension Mapping: In any star schema we need to load all the Dimension tables first because they act like reference for Fact

Fact mapping: there is dependency for Fact which looks up for the Dimension table Surrogate Keys that's how you make the Star...

Dimension Mapping: The mapping which uses target as one of the dimension is called dimension mapping suppose a warehouse has 4dimension tables and 1 fact table that is a star schema of 4 dimensions we design 4 dimension mappings to load data into 4 dimensions and one fact mapping which uses the data of 4 dimensions of the warehouse. Fact Mapping: The mapping which uses the fact as the target.
