Informatica Metadate is nothing but the source definition, target definition and the transformations that have been built. They are stored in the respository server and is managed by Repository manager of the informatica client tool.

Metadata is data decription of data. sourcedef, targetdef, mappings, mapplets, transformations, database connection names, password, tasks, worklet, workflow are nothing but a metadata i.e., stored in Repository.

All informations about the mappings, workflows such as Source, target, transformations are converted into metadata format and it is stored in the Repository database. The repository database is a open database, which can be accessible by the Repositoy server and Informatica server.

Metadata is simply documentation for a digital geospatial dataset. It is a text document that describes the who, what, when, where, why and how questions about the data, so that a potential data user can decide whether or not the data is appropriate for his/her use."
