If Brush Testing is with respect to some product such as adobe Illustrator or MS Paintbrush, then testing of Brush and its properties (thickness/sharpness etc) can be part of brush testing

It is more like Smoke testing where you get to test the environment before hand, before releasing to the testers to execute their tests.

Brush testing is very much same as smoke testing. In the brush testing user try to find whether basic functionality or any particular functionality is working. So user decide whether to send application or particular functionality move ahead for detail testing.
