RE: what are the diffrences between Business Objects 5...

in bo 5.1  there is  no  xml data providers, there is no web connect data providers,we can not save exelform in bo 5.1

from bo 6.1 on wards these are all provided

With BusinessObjects 6.1

you can use the output of one query as the input to
another. You build your first query, then reference it in the second. This allows for
the creation of more complex queries.

Main difference between BO 5.1 and 6.5 is Web Intelligence(info view).Using BO 5.1 info view : we can only view the reports that are created using USER module. we can't modify those reports.Using BO 6.5 info view:We can view and create the reports . we neednot have BO installed on out systems to do this.

Some more differences:

---With Webi 6.5, use of multiple data providers are allowed.....but the the only problem is that there is no syncronisation..i.e, Data providers cannot be linked!

---with 6.5, infact from 6.1 onwards, you can directly save a report into .xls, .pdf, .rtf...etc formats.

---there is a lot of improvement in Application Foundation with many new features

Mr. Sithu,

Are you sure about what you are saying...? May be I did'nt made myself clear! I am talking about WEBI in 6.5, it allows multiple data providers...but the syncronisation is not even in BO XI r1...but it is updated in XI r2 WEBI.

I have not used the BO 5.x versions and I have good experience with 6.1a, 6.1b,6.1.3 but I am pretty confident about 6.5

Let me know,

Thanks!

One More other difference is they have introduced Derived Tables Concept in 6.5 Version. This is very usefull to create Agregated data with different tables at Designer level,it will improve the Query Performance .

in 6.x version you can save universe in PDF Format,This format can be easily understand by the End users while UAT.

In 6.5 Version Designer they have introduced Derived Table Concept,This Concept is more usefull For Creating the Different combination of Columns from different type of Tables at Designer Level this can improve the Query Performance because it stores the data logically.

In 6.x version they have introduced one more concept called save as PDF

we can save our Universe in PDF Format this format could be easily understand by the endusers while Testing the Univese in UAT.

RE: what are the diffrences between Business Objects 5...

Hi Sithu,

I am looking at the PDF document "businessobjects_xi_whats_new.pdf" (goto Page 10) downloaded from the BusinessObjects site. A sample info found on this pdf:

----------------------------------Text from PDF----

Web Intelligence XI Release 2 has been enhanced to deliver query authoring power and ease-of-use interactivity features so that organizations can broaden the reach of ad hoc analysis through a zero-client interface. Enhancements include:

    1. • Synchronized multiple data providers that allow users to bring together data from two universes into a single table or chart and then explore this information
    2. • Combined queries using the ‘Union,’ ‘Intersect,’ and ‘Minus’ operators
    3. • Access to OLAP data via universes
    4. • Sub queries – allowing users to use the results of a query as a filter for a further query
    5. • Conditional queries based on object-to-object comparison
    6. • Manual editing of the SQL

Additionally, Web Intelligence XI Release 2 provides greatly enhanced report creation capabilities such as:

    1. • Ranking of both query results and report content
    2. • Custom sorting
    3. • Advanced formula language functions

Finally, Web Intelligence XI Release 2 provides the ability to view the ETL metadata from BusinessObjects Data Integrator.

------------------------------------------

Thanks,

Ravi

RE: what are the diffrences between Business Objects 5...

Main Diff Bet 5.1 & 6.5v - Cluster Concept:

In BO 6.5v architecture ClusterManager & Cluster Nodes are there.

"Cluster" means group of Cluster Nodes.

"Cluster Manager" means group of Cluster acts as server.

So whenever the Cluster Manager gets down due to some problem, automatically the Nodes gets activated & act as Server till the server is rectified. There may be any number of cluster nodes.

This is the main difference.
