Traceability matrix is something that explains the relationship between the requirement of a software product. so it is mapping between the different requirements. It helps in managing the change in requirement. If a requirement is changed then it helps in finding the requirements that is to be changed for the system to be stable or feasible.

Tracebility matrix is method which can be used whether our product

Cover all Client requirements specifications. Here we can take the requirement ds,

Test case ids and bug ids. In this 3 ids the first requirement ids should cover

Other two ids (test case ids, bug ids ) so both three have to be processed and checked. Finally result will pass we can say testing is over .

Traceability Matrix is a table that correlates any two baselined documents that require a many to many relationship to determine the completeness of the relationship. It is often used with high-level requirements (sometimes known as marketing requirements) and detailed requirements of the software product to the matching parts of high-level design, detailed design, test plan, and test cases.

Common usage is to take the identifier for each of the items of one document and place them in the left column. The identifiers for the other document are placed across the top row. When an item in the left column is related to an item across the top, a mark is placed in the intersecting cell. The number of relationships are added up for each row and each column. This value indicates the mapping of the two items. Zero values indicate that no relationship exists and that one must be made. Large values imply that the item is too complex and should be simplified.

How will we know that our testing effort meets the client's requirements? What are the tests we perform for any particular business requirements? How will we have the visibility on the quality of the software being developed? We get the response of the above queries from RTM (Requirement Traceability Matrix). It maintain the relation between tests are being performed and the client's requirements. Are we doing testing in a right direction or not? That is determined by RTM. We can estimate to what level of quality we have achieved at the moment. RTM plays a very important role in Quality Assurance and Project Management

Traceability Matrix gives a cross reference between Test case document and the functional/ Design specification document.
1.This document helps to identify, if the test case document contains tests for all the identified unit functions from the design specification.
2. From this Matrix we can collect the percentage of test coverage taking into account the percentage of functionalities to the total tested and not tested.
3. The biggest advantage of Traceability Matrix is backward and forward traceability. At any point of time in the development life cycle the status of the project and the modules that have been tested could be easily determined thereby reducing the possibility of speculations about the status of the project.
4. The traceability Matrix is created even before any test cases are written, because it is a complete list indicating what has to be tested.

QA tractability matrix is a mapping between requirements and test cases.

Here each test case is associated with a requirement.

It’s like a word document which is prepared during the requirement analysis phase.

QA Traceability contains

  1. Unique no
  2. Requirement source
  3. Requirement statement
  4. Test specification
  5. program module
  6. modification field
  7. Remarks.

Tracebility Matrix is most important piece of SQA.  It's just like the bank statement where you know exact picture of your finance condition.  Same is the scenario for traceability Matrics, which gives you the right picture of the requirements status wheather pass or fail in the application.  And any more information related to that requiement can be traced back to see for its functionality.
