A plane goes from Chicago to Columbus and then comes back. It takes the same time
to travel in either ways. It leaves Chicago early in the morning 0644 LOCAL TIME
and reaches the destination Columbus at 0849 LOCAL TIME. In the same evening it
leave Columbus at 1625 hrs LOCAL TIME and reaches the destination at 1638
LOCAL TIME. Find the time that the plane takes to travel either way?

The plane starts from Chichago at 6:44(Chichago local time). Let the time it takes to reach Columbus be x. It reaches Columbus at 8:49(Columbus local time) ,so the Chicago local time at that moment is 6:44+x. The duration of stay at Columbus is from 8:49 to 16:25 ie 7hrs 36mins.It leaves Columbus at 16:25 n reaches Chicago at 16:38(Chicago local time) taking x time again. So 6:44+x plus 7hrs 36mins plus x is 16:38(chicago local time).The duration between 6:44 and 16:38 is 9hrs 54mins. Therefore (9hrs 54mins) = (7hrs 36mins)+2x x= 1hr 9mins or 69mins.

From the given travel times, it is clearly understood that local time of Columbus is always less than local time in Chicago
Let us assume the time difference is y and time taken by the plane to travel either ways is x
Time taken for first journey = (08:49 - 06:44) = 125 min
Hence, x + y = 125 min
Time taken for second journey = (04:38 – 04:25) = 13 min
x – y = 13 min
To find value for x, we need to add both the equations
2x = 138
x = 69 min = 1hr 9 min
