One is not a prime number.  A prime number is a number with exactly two factors - one and itself.  The number one has only one factor.  So- there are 25 prime numbers from 1-100.  (as some people have stated.)  And the numbers 39, 51, 57 and 87 (that one person had listed) are all divisible by three and therefore not prime.

Not to be complaining, please reply with 'I think that....'  for your answers unless you are absolutely sure.  One on my students found this thread while doing an assignment and would have had the wrong answer.   Granted, she should have read the entire thread and not just the first reply - but she is only in the seventh grade and was just happy to find an answer! (and she thought she had proved me wrong!)

Thanks,

Sherri
