Advantages:

uses: machining, parting, thread cutting, knurling, boring, facing

Disadvantages:

Every machine has its specific function, Lathe has more

Advantages over disadvantages :

only centering of jobs is still a tedious job for some operators in four jaw chuck

in three jaw chuck centering always imperfect
