Alpha and beta testing come under functional testing.

Alpha testing: after completion of the system, the product vendor come to the producer's place and test the whole system in any manner.

Beta testing: after delivered the system to the vendor. the vendor have themself some specific customers. they give the s/w to them to test in real time manner.

Alpha & Beta Testing Come under Functional Testing. To Test the functionality
of Project we use Functional Testing.

Alpha Testing : Test Engineer First Round of Testing.
Enough functionality has been reasonably completed to enable the first round of
(end-to-end) system testing to commence. At this point the interface might not
be complete and the system may have many bugs.
Most of the time we hear about Beta versions of Project.

Beta Testing : First End-user testing is said to be as Beta Testing.
The bulk of functionality and the interface has been completed and remaining
work is aimed at improving performance, eliminating defects and completing
cosmetic work.

Alpha and Beta Testing are acceptance testing.

Acceptance Testing can be done in two ways
• Alpha testing is testing of an application when development is nearing completion. Minor design changes can still be made as a result of alpha testing. Alpha testing is typically performed by a group that is independent of the design team, but still within the company, e.g. in-house software test engineers, or software QA engineers.

• In Beta testing, the software is distributed as a beta version to the users and users test the application at their sites. Beta testing is testing an application when development and testing are essentially completed and final bugs and problems need to be found before the final release. Beta testing is typically performed by end-users or others, not programmers, software engineers, or test engineers.
