Fill in 5 litres container then pour it into 3 litre one.
Empty 3 litre can and pour the two litre left in 5 litre can into this. So you have 2 litres in 3 litre can.

Again fill 5 litre can completely and fill remaining one litre in 3 litre can.
So you are left with 4 litres in 5 litre can

first fill up the 5ltr can pour it to 3ltr can.
2ltr remains in 5ltr can.
empty the 3ltr can.
pour the remaining 2ltr from 5ltr can to 3ltr can.
Fill up the 5ltr can again.
Pour it to 3ltr can. Since 3ltr can already has 2ltr in it it can take only 1more litre.
So 4 ltrs remain in the 5ltr can.

Initially take water with 3 ltrs capacity and pour in to 5 ltr capacity and again do the same thing. So now you have 1 ltr in 3 ltr capacity container. Remove all the water from the 5 ltr container and fill with 1 ltr water which is in the 3 ltr container and now take another 3 ltr and pour in to the 5 ltr capacity container now it has 4 ltrs.
