what is the need of creating derived tables in the BO universe design

Derived tables are mainly created to have some precalculations done so that they save processing time .
Complex calculations involving huge amounts of data at report level reduces the performance of the report.
Moreover they can provide real-time data analysis unlike summary tables using aggregate awarenss that are costly to maintain and needs regular refreshing.
Moreover they can also include prompts.
