Datawarehousing projects are different from the traditional OLTP project. First of all they are ongoing. A datawarehouse project is never "complete". Here most of the time the business users would say - "give us the data and then we will tell you what do we want". So here a traditional waterfall model is not the optimal SDLC approach.

The best approach here is of a phased iteration - where you implement and deliver projects in small manageable chunks (90 days ~ 1 qtr) and keep maturing your data warehouse.
