Can i search in a vsam cluster? Let's say I have a vsam cluster in which I am storing information of employees (first name, last name, address, etc.) which the employee has entered. Now I want to search using first or last name so that the information of the employees with the entered name (last or first) is displayed. Can I do this and if yes, how to do ?

Yes you can search in a VSAM cluster.You can do this search by browsing the VSAM cluster thru FILEAID

Give the search criteria there and get the results

Yes you can search a VSAM cluster. Depending on the type of organization, you can search in KSDS using primary key or alternate key, in ESDS its not possible to search using name or any data but by using relative byte addressing (RBA). Also in RRDS, its only possible to search using relative record no. so its only poosible to search by setting the frst name or last name as primary key and alternate keys.
