PLC is an completely industrial automation system, where as DCS is an computerized control system.
PLC is economicaly low cost, but the DCS costs high.

PLC was earlier called programmable logic controllers but now it is more famously known as programabble controllers.the change was because of the fact that PLC'S can handle analog and digital I/O as earliear it could handle only digital.PLC'S are automatic controllers which is a substitute to hard wired controllers.they are extensively used for automation.
DCS stands for dristibuted control system which is implemented in areas for a larger control than PLC,including several PLC and  use of protols such as MODBUS,ETHERNET,ETC.

In PLC programming part and visualisation part i.e SCADA both are separated but in DCS both are merged so that commissioning of DCS is much easier then PLC.
Apart from this DCS having data handling capacity much better the PLC,there are no limitation of using objects, trends.Other then that visualization wise DCS is much better then PLC.In Power Plants generally company recommends DCS bcoz DI/DO/AI/AOs are much high.In small application we can use PLC.

If any body need information other than that he/she can contact me on my mail id.

NONE. Not anymore. They both do automation very well. Unless you are talking safety systems, then go out for bid and make sure you are using a system that uses IEC1131 programming standards. That is the latest. Honeywell, Focboro, Bailey programmings 1980's. Experian kept same slow stuff down into the controls so to replace HMI and not the TDC well you just signing your death warrant you are now stuck to upgrade the remaining system with Honeywell and when you done 5 to 10 years from now well the marketing works they will stop supporting another component and the cycle starts all over again.

plc stands for programmable logic controller.dcs stands for distributed control system.functions of plc and dcs are same.both are using for as a instrumentation controller.but dcs are very advanced,it can control more than one process at a time, but plc can control only one at time.dcs located distributed high area,it consist its own more than one plc,for controlling different different process.plc system require scada software for monitoring control process, but in the dcs case scada merged into dcs,i mean it doesn't require special scada software,it in built in dcs,so it is called computerised control system,we can both monitoring and controlling system at a time.
