Intensive work in CAD/CAM/CAE engineeriong aspects:

CAD- involves Pro*Engineering, Matlab, AutoCAD ( more of highend like AMD(autocad mechanical destop), auto surf, Autodesigner, Auto LISP etc....Reputed big companies is the entry like Toyota, HONDA, NTPC, Computervision R&D labs, etc...

even companies like TCS, wipro, infosys recruit mecanical engineers for its mechanocal CAD CAM CAE solutions

CAM relates to data for te management purpose in decision making aspect.

CAE is programming language interfaces in CAD with the aspect to product design. The data is kept in tabular forms to retain the information modularity and clarity of the object designed. AutoLISP is the Autodesk tool and various other programming languages are used for the aspect.

These days IT companies recruit B.Tech students from any streams. There is no hard and fast rule that a graduate from mechanical engineeing will be in CAD/CAM divisions of IT companies. They will train you in any of the technologies (java/dot net/mainframes/testing etc) depending on their business needs.

i say a mechanical engineer can operate both mechanical and other jobs easily as campared to the other branches. mechanical engineer is perfect in case of practical knowledge. totally a mechanical engineer is the one who fits in every field.
a hardworking guy who works physically and mentally is a mech engineer.
