router is a layer 3 device.basic function of router is to send packets between different networks.

Router is a layer 3 device. it route the packet from one lan to different lan.to avoid broadcast we use router .

Router is layer3 device which packet filtering and forwardnig on the basis of layer3 address.

Router is a layer 3 device and it send packets to the clients. best example for this is internet connection. ISP(internet service providers)send packets to their customers through this Router.

Router is a network layer device normaly used to connect different networks. These are two types Software and Hardware routers Cisco 2500 as example of hardware routers but a system running win2000 or win2003 with 2 nic cards can be made as software routers. Hardware routers are normally connected between networks separated geographically.

Routers maintain a routing table having info about network address subnet mask interface and a number field called metric value. After checking ip adddress o f every packet coming it determines the best path and forwards the packet to the other neighbouring router. It works this way.

Router belongs to Network Layer
The Main function of Router is to connect two different networks.
Router transfers data using the routed protocols like RIP IGRP EIGRP OSPF.
Each of them have Administrative distance through which data transfer takes place.
Router chooses the shortest path and transfers.

What is the router?how will it work?
Router is layer 3 device. It's working on network layer. Router connect two different network. Router by default break up broadcast domain. Router forward packet from one network to another network.

3. router by default break up broadcast domain & collision domain.
4. router will be transmitted packets via best avilable route.
5. router reduce network traffice in networking.
6. router filter unwanted packet in internetwork.
