product is like readymade which is build by company and sold to customers and if customer wants any changes like color, title, appearance changes and some extra functions to be added then company will customize the product and sold to customer, project is like company will take the requirements from customer and build the product as per given requirements. in product testing we will have business requirements as for project it is software user requirements. And when it comes to testing, after completing the changes given by customer will be done and testing will carried as whole like system testing in presence of client and for project testing each and every phase which will be builded will be tested. All the functinalities will validated in both product and project testing

product testing:Product testing is the branch of engineering concerned with the experimental, developmental, and performance characteristics of product .

In other words It is develop by the organzation and marketing  by the company IT selfs.

project testing:A project manager drafts a project definition, but its development is a team effort. The definition is an agreement among key participants in a project, and must have input from all of those participants.

In other words project testing is done according to the client requirement. The modification and change has to made according in some case.

For Project Testing, The Performance Benchmarks, Environment / Compatibility

Benchmarks/Functionality/UI etc guidelines will be provided by the Customers. For Project all these metrics are defined by the Company in the early stage of the product. The main goal here would be the Customization, usability etc.Once this product in Beta/Production and customers start using this, the customers will come into picture for all the requirements enhancements or defining performance benchmarks etc. Generally the product life cycle would be incremental.

Product Testing:  Product Testing is a Testing where company develop a product  and Test. for product Testing we have to keep different type of approach because in the developing of product we don't have the client, company is only the client and after successful complition of product marketing team has to target marketing of this product on the basis of features and usefulness for the users. So At the time of testing product we have put stress on the issues like:
1) Usability.
2) User Interface.
3) Functionality.
4) Repeatability
5) security
6) correctness
7) Cost

Project Testing: But in Porject testing requirements are specified by the client so we are not need to bother ab't the marketing of the application. just we have to test  it as per specified by the client.

Product:

Product is, a company that develop and releases Hardware, Middleware,
Operating system, Languages, Tools etc are becomes the product. They develop the
products for global clients i.e. there are no specific clients for them. Here
the requirements are gathered from market and analyze that with some experts and
start to develop the product. After developing the products they try to market
it as a solution. Here the end users are more than one. Product development is
never ending process and customization is possible.

Project:

Project is finding solution to a particular problem to a particular client.
It depends on the product. By using the products like Hardware, Middleware,
Operating system, Languages and Tools only we will develop a project. Here the
requirements are gathered from the client and analyze with that client and start
to develop the project. Here the end user is one.

Project-Placing the order before manufacturing process

Product-Placing the order after manufacturing process

As a QA you are only concerned with the type of application. Things like what technologies/languages/scripts were used to develop the application; whether its a product or a project etc will never be a part of test strategy or your test approach. QA always looks at the application with an aim to break the system and check it's behavior.
